Separator Skid Design for Oil and Gas Projects

Separator skid packages combine separation equipment, piping, instrumentation and a supporting steel frame into a modular assembly. KHAAS Group provides detailed engineering for separator skid packages, helping EPC contractors and package manufacturers coordinate the vessel, piping and structural interfaces.

Our engineering approach focuses on practical package layouts, clearly defined loads, maintainability and fabrication documentation for Indian and international oil and gas projects.

What Is a Separator Skid?

A separator separates components of a process stream. A two-phase separator typically separates gas and liquid, while a three-phase separator separates gas, oil and water. The vessel configuration and process performance requirements are established by the process designer and equipment supplier.

The skid design then integrates that equipment into a transportable package, with piping connections, supports and access arranged around the approved process and vendor requirements.

Important Separator Package Interfaces

  • Vessel support: coordinate support locations, attachment details and equipment reactions with the vessel designer.

  • Weight conditions: distinguish empty, operating and test weights and confirm where each condition applies.

  • Piping connections: assess piping flexibility and equipment connection loads against the approved criteria.

  • Maintenance access: allow space for instruments, manways and removal of components identified by the vendor.

  • Handling: develop lifting and transport arrangements using the agreed package weight and centre of gravity.

KHAAS Group’s Detailed Engineering Scope

Our services can include skid base-frame analysis, steel member and connection design, lifting lug and anchor-bolt checks, piping stress analysis, pipe-support design, 3D modelling, general arrangements and fabrication drawings. Pressure vessel mechanical design can be included as a separately defined scope where required.

Separator Skid Design Methodology

1. Confirm the design inputs

Review the approved P&ID, vessel datasheet and general arrangement, nozzle data, weights, piping specifications and client requirements. Establish the responsibility split between process design, vessel design and package integration.

2. Coordinate the 3D arrangement

Develop the layout around vessel supports, access needs, piping interfaces and the allowable transport envelope. Identify clashes and interface questions before detailed calculations and drawings are finalised.

3. Complete structural and piping assessments

Evaluate the agreed operating, test, lifting and transportation cases where applicable. Coordinate frame behaviour, support reactions and piping loads across disciplines.

4. Deliver fabrication information

Issue checked calculations and drawings for review, incorporate agreed comments and release the coordinated fabrication package with material schedules.

Typical Engineering Deliverables

The agreed deliverable register may include structural calculations, a piping stress report, vessel-interface information, the skid general arrangement, 3D model, base-frame fabrication drawings, connection and support details, lifting details and bills of materials.

Why Work with KHAAS Group?

KHAAS Group specialises in skid package design and detailed engineering for the oil and gas industry. Our structural and mechanical teams support coordinated project delivery, with attention to buildability, maintenance access and clear client-review documentation. We work from Chennai, India, with support for global project requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a separator skid design include process sizing?

Process sizing, separation performance and internals selection must be assigned to the responsible specialist. KHAAS defines the package engineering scope and interfaces at the quotation stage so responsibilities are clear.

Can KHAAS support horizontal or vertical arrangements?

The engineering scope can be developed around the approved vessel configuration and supplier information. Frame design and package layout are tailored to the actual support geometry and project conditions.

What should be included in an RFQ?

Send the P&ID, vessel datasheet and drawing, nozzle information, weights, preliminary layout, site requirements and required deliverables.
